Recently I happened across the Canadian media production company, VEI (Visual Entertainment Inc.) and noticed that they had the distribution rights to several old T.V. show from the 80s, which I used to enjoy watching. I’ve never bought from them before, but decided to give them a try. My first purchase was a boxed set of the T.V. show, “The Equalizer”, and boy was I surprised by what I received.

Golan-Globus helped shape the 80s for me
The scripts weren’t very complex, the characters were about as cliche as you could get, and the budgets were shoe-string. The films, however, were iconic and created a movie experience that many studios tried to copy, but never duplicated.

Archiving my library of MP4s
This project has been a sort of hobby within a hobby. For the past year, I’ve been slowly working on backing up our library of digitally recorded movies, stored on several USB mass storage devices, to DVD-R in the event that one of these devices ever fails on us.

It’s old, but it still works
Yet another DVD player of ours craped out in less than four months! This one I bought from Amazon, so thankfully they’re giving me a refund. But it just re-enforces my opinion that electronics today are total and utter garbage no matter what name-brand you buy. I think you’re just better off with older technology, if you can find it.

Do you store upright or stacked?
So, what is the best way to store your collection of VHS tapes? In order to make shelf space go a little further, is it safe to store your tapes stacked one on top of each other, or is it better to store them upright standing next to each other? I have always stored my VHS tapes standing upright, but as my collection grows, I can see that I would be able to store more tapes on the shelf if I stacked them. But, I really don’t know if doing this will have any sort of negative effect on the life of the tape.

Cheap is just the new “normal”
This evening, we sat down to watch a couple of movies that we haven’t seen for a while. First, we watched “A Knight’s Tale”, which is one of the first movies we ever purchased on DVD. This was back in 2001; over twenty years ago already! After that, we decided to watch one of the more recent DVDs we’ve purchased, X-Men Apocalypse. When I picked up the box from the shelf it almost flew right out of my hand!

The nostalgia for VHS
Last night, my wife and I watched one of our movies from our collection, which we haven’t watched in a long time. The movie was “Red Dawn” and it was a real pleasure to watch it again. Best of all, we watched it on VHS and that always brings us a lot of pleasure on its own, for the nostalgia we have for this video format.
