My project of compiling some of my favorite Cannon produced movies into DVD compilations has been going well (albeit a bit slow). As I’ve been working on these discs, making “Main Menu” screens for the DVD, the idea popped into my noggin’ of making a sort of “trading card” for these, as well.
There’s no real practical reason for these things, just a little something extra to collect, I suppose. I also like Cannon’s VHS cover art for these movies, so this is a good way to bring attention to them. I’m putting them on 4×6 high gloss photo paper and they look pretty good. To make them look more like a trading card, I’ve included a selection of movie stats, along with the images printed on the slip cover’s spine.
As I started collecting (aka printing) them, my wife found a small photo album to store them in, which was a really good idea.
I’m looking forward to filling the album up. However, it’s turning out to be a real drain on ink for the inkjet printer. I was thinking that I’ll keep making them on the computer, but when I have a good number of them, I’ll send them off to a photo printing service, rather than print them off myself. The cost savings there will certainly be worth the extra effort. And, since they’re simple 4×6, I should be able to get the discounted bulk photo rates.
Granted, these little cards are no replacement for actual VHS or Laserdisc slip case and jacket covers, but they’re still something physical to go along with the digital content. And I always prefer the physical/tangible things over the non-tangible.
